The Due Dates is about taking it easy, enjoying some quality fiction and non-fiction while eating some snacks. We meet once a month or so on Fridays in the Library/Student Success Center (room 2200, Central Campus).
See archived Book Club handouts, or download one for an upcoming meeting.
Beloit College would like to invite you to join a Community Reading and Worldbuilding Project this fall on the legendary science fiction writer Ursula Le Guin. The project celebrates the 50th anniversary of the publication of Le Guin's award-winning novel The Dispossessed, which asks important questions such as: what is freedom, and how can people work together to create meaningful community? Praised as a "seamless" work of worldbuilding, Le Guin's utopian fiction portrays two planets divided by conflict and seeking dialogue with each other again.
We encourage you to read The Dispossessed and join our events this fall, which will include book discussion group meetings, worldbuilding sessions, a kick-off roundtable, and an exhibit opening. If you'd like to receive a FREE copy (384 pages) and to participate in "Le Guin at Beloit," please fill out THIS FORM. Interested but unable to read a longer book? We still welcome your involvement and invite you to read a shorter fair-use excerpt from Chapters 1-2 of the novel. (Note the following content warnings, and that books are available in limited quantities.)
Whether or not you read the book, we hope to see you at our main event:
A Kick-Off Public Roundtable: "The Dispossessed at 50"
